Fifteen - This game is so easy and fun. It's all about teaching the kids about adding. Basically you print off bingo style sheets and the kids have to colour in two or three numbers that add up to fifteen. The last player to be able to find three numbers to add up to fifteen is the winner.
Assigning the project over a weekend can help to avoid the pressure of getting it done in one night, with all the other homework. Weekends on the other hand are often the time families catch up on things put off during the week, so sometimes weekend homework is bothersome. An easy science experiment for kids to do on their own can work because most experiments are done in short time frames. You do part of it, then come back later to do some more. If there is a write up to do, it can be worked into the available time, typically on Sunday afternoon.
Go to the library or do an online search together for some fun and interesting facts about the area. What types of flora and fauna will you find along the trail? When do the wildflowers bloom? I know where I live, its a matter of timing to see the wildflowers blooming on the cacti . Kids are naturally curious so they will love to hear about the environment and the history of the area.
These are just a few things which can be done as DIY projects with your kids. When your kids grow tired of the toys, or outgrow them, they can easily be put into recycling bins.
